About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide academic guidance and support to native and indigenous students, including first-generation students.
- Connect students with essential campus resources to support their undergraduate or graduate degree completion.
- Assist the Department Chair with administrative projects, event coordination, and departmental record-keeping.
- Support faculty in their research endeavors and maintain accurate electronic and hard copy records.
- Manage departmental social media presence and assist with design tasks using software like Adobe InDesign or Photoshop.
- Analyze student information and departmental data to prepare clear, professional reports and recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven analytical skills to assess situations and recommend appropriate procedural improvements.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet competing deadlines independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to manage detailed spreadsheets.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters with sensitivity, discretion, and empathy.
- Effective communication skills for composing professional correspondence and memoranda.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing academic or administrative support within a higher education environment.
- Familiarity with University systems such as DARS, SIS, BruinBuy, or UC Path.
- Proficiency with design software including MS Publisher, Adobe InDesign, or Photoshop.
- Experience managing professional social media accounts.
