About the role
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the full lifecycle of athletic injury insurance claims, including intake, documentation, submission, tracking, and closure
- Serve as the primary liaison between student athletes, athletic trainers, medical providers, and insurance carriers
- Provide guidance to student athletes regarding claims processes, coverage, and coordination of benefits
- Monitor claim status and resolve issues such as delays, denials, or incomplete documentation
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain accurate, confidential medical and billing records
- Advocate for student athletes to resolve billing discrepancies and prevent accounts from being sent to collections
- Collaborate with University departments, including Campus Health Services and Legal, to mitigate injury risks
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, risk management, or equivalent experience
- 2–4 years of experience in insurance claims management, healthcare billing, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of medical insurance processes and coordination of benefits
- Thorough understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a customer-service orientation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in collegiate athletics, higher education, or a sports medicine environment
- Familiarity with athletic injury insurance programs
- Proven experience working directly with medical providers and insurance carriers
