About the role

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate documentation and establish appropriate accommodations and services for students, faculty, and staff
  • Ensure institutional compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA, and the Fair Housing Act
  • Maintain confidential student records and stay updated on changes in disability laws and best practices
  • Coordinate interpreting services and materials in alternative formats for university classes and events
  • Serve as a liaison between students and faculty to negotiate accommodations and provide training to staff
  • Offer academic coaching, advising, and workshops on study skills, time management, and self-advocacy
  • Monitor individual student progress and perform proactive outreach to ensure academic success
  • Proctor student examinations and collaborate with IT to evaluate assistive technologies and adaptive equipment

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work without constant supervision
  • Strong multitasking ability and capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students, and parents

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of student disability services experience in a higher education setting
  • Active and energetic involvement in a small college environment
