Structural Fitter

Responsibilities

• Lay out, position, align, and fit metal components together in various body positions
• Bolt, clamp, and weld metal components including piping systems, plate, pipe, tube, or structural shapes
• Clean or degrease weld joints and workplaces using wire brushes or portable grinders
• Remove excess weld, defective material, slag, and spatter using handheld grinders, gas torches, or power chippers
• Preheat work pieces using a hand torch and cut metal plates or structural shapes
• Examine welds for bead size and other required specifications
• Coordinate with cutting and bay pulling departments to ensure materials are staged for fabrication
• Comply with all safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and regulations
• Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, and equipment

Requirements

• Experience in a field or related industrial area
• Ability to layout and align components accurately
• Ability to use handheld grinders and torches
• High School Diploma or GED preferred
