About the role
About the Company
Quantum Space is redefining mobility and autonomy beyond Earth orbit. Our Ranger spacecraft deliver high delta-V and sustained on-orbit maneuverability, enabling missions across cislunar and geostationary space that were previously out of reach.
Responsibilities
- Lead structural analysis and design efforts for spacecraft primary and secondary structures
- Perform detailed analyses including static, modal, vibration, shock, acoustic, and thermal-structural coupling
- Develop finite element models to evaluate structural margins across launch and on-orbit environments
- Build and maintain spacecraft finite element models (FEM) using tools such as NASTRAN, FEMAP, or ANSYS
- Define structural verification strategies and support testing campaigns including vibration and acoustic testing
- Collaborate with mechanical, propulsion, avionics, and thermal teams to ensure structural compatibility
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior structural and mechanical engineers
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering
- 7+ years of experience in structural analysis for spacecraft or launch vehicles
- Strong experience with FEA tools such as NASTRAN, FEMAP, ANSYS, or Abaqus
- Experience building structural models directly from CAD assemblies (Creo, SolidWorks, or NX)
- Expertise analyzing launch and dynamic environments including vibration, shock, and acoustic loads
- Experience supporting structural testing and model correlation using hardware test data
- Knowledge of aerospace structural materials, joints, and lightweight design techniques
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual per ITAR regulations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with composite structures or thin-walled pressure vessels
- Familiarity with Python or MATLAB for analysis automation
- Experience with fracture mechanics tools such as NASGRO
- Familiarity with aerospace structural standards like NASA-STD-5001 or MIL-STD-1540
- Experience in a fast-paced startup environment
