About the role
Responsibilities
- Design and analyse reinforced concrete structures for Nuclear Island Buildings of EPR nuclear power plants
- Perform structural calculations and Finite Element modelling using ANSYS APDL or similar software
- Ensure structural integrity under seismic, dynamic, and environmental loads
- Collaborate with detailing, drafting, and BIM teams to ensure design integration
- Conduct structural assessments of design changes and propose modifications
- Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and construction documentation
- Provide technical support and evaluations during the construction phase
- Work with construction contractors to resolve structural challenges on-site
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and draftsmen
- Collaborate with clients, construction teams, and regulatory bodies to ensure safety compliance
Requirements
- Background in the nuclear industry or another heavy industry sector
- Established career in Civil Structural Engineering
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Right to work in the UK
- Experience in Structural Civil Work, Civil Design, RC detailing, and steel structures
- Knowledge of Eurocodes or ETC-C
- Proven experience with European Pressurized Reactors (EPR)
- Proficiency in structural analysis software such as ANSYS or SAP2000
- Familiarity with Finite Element software like ANSYS APDL or Robot
- Strong understanding of seismic analysis and design principles
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional licensure or chartered status in Structural Engineering
- Experience with on-site design support and contractor collaboration
- Experience with 3D BIM modelling using TEKLA or Navisworks
