About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead a citizen-science-driven watershed monitoring and stewardship program to support County restoration and conservation goals.
- Collect, verify, analyze, and report environmental data to County officials, agencies, NGOs, and the public.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and staff assistants to implement program work scope and ensure data quality.
- Maintain and upgrade the Clallam County Water Resources database and upload data to the Washington State Department of Ecology EIM system.
- Develop and implement water quality sampling plans and Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPP) in compliance with state policies.
- Coordinate with local, regional, and national agencies, including the EPA, USGS, and Washington Departments of Ecology, Fish & Wildlife, and Natural Resources.
- Manage program budgets, contracts, and equipment procurement.
- Research and communicate legal issues such as property access and regulatory compliance to partners and volunteers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in hydrology, ecology, environmental science, biology, geography, planning, or a related natural resources field.
- Five (5) years of experience in water quality sampling, environmental monitoring, or related data collection activities (education may substitute for experience as specified in the full job description).
- Experience with community-level outreach and volunteer coordination related to natural resource conservation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Access or other relational database systems for managing and querying datasets.
- Experience with grant or project administration and implementation related to environmental restoration projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of SQL or other data query languages.
- Experience working with environmental data management systems or similar specialized tools.
