Strategy & Operations Manager

About the Company

Outpost is a modular back office for global commerce, building the infrastructure for physical goods cross-border commerce including customs duties, landed cost calculation, DDP/DAP routing, import VAT, and clearance operations. Our team includes leaders from Revolut, Airwallex, Adyen, and Wayflyer.

Responsibilities

• Build systems for accurate landed cost, duties, tariffs, and import tax calculations at checkout
• Solve HS classification at scale for merchant product catalogs
• Develop routing logic for DDP vs DAP strategy based on order value and margin
• Manage carrier and broker relationships with providers like DHL, FedEx, and UPS
• Oversee customs clearance, documentation infrastructure, and shipment troubleshooting
• Build duty drawback and import VAT recovery processes for returns
• Onboard merchants from platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, and BigCommerce
• Collaborate with product and GTM teams to shape the roadmap and merchant playbooks

Requirements

• Deep understanding of customs, duties, tariffs, and import VAT
• Experience with HS classification and cross-border logistics
• Knowledge of DDP vs DAP unit economics and de minimis thresholds
• Experience working with Shopify, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce ecosystems
• Ability to thrive in an ambiguous, fast-paced startup environment
• Strong bias for action and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in cross-border e-commerce platforms (e.g., Global-e, eShopWorld)
• Experience with landed cost/duty calculation tools (e.g., Zonos, Avalara)
• Experience in logistics with customs exposure (e.g., Flexport, DHL Trade)
• Experience at large-scale international retailers (e.g., ASOS, Farfetch, Zalando)
