About the role
Responsibilities
- Define and steward a consistent, GBU-level approach to identifying and assessing external opportunities across BD/M&A and licensing.
- Align methods, criteria, and stage gates used to evaluate opportunities to raise the quality and comparability of assessments across franchises.
- Coordinate closely with franchise new product planning teams, central BD/M&A teams, and Finance to build a systematic approach to sourcing and scoping.
- Provide scientifically grounded assessments of assets and targets, evaluating mechanism, clinical rationale, and the competitive landscape.
- Support valuation and business-case development for priority opportunities by connecting commercial assumptions to financial analysis.
- Serve as a thought partner to the Global Head of Strategy & Operations regarding GBU priorities and the external opportunity pipeline.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required (scientific or business field preferred).
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in corporate development, business development & licensing (BD&L), or M&A within the biopharma industry.
- Strong financial and deal acumen, including experience with valuation and business-case development.
- High level of scientific literacy to engage credibly on asset mechanisms and clinical rationale.
- Proven track record of coordinating across multiple complex, matrixed teams or functions.
- Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in life sciences (MD, PhD, or PharmD) or an MBA.
- Direct involvement in BD&L or M&A activities such as due diligence or deal teams.
- Experience in specialty therapeutic areas.
