About the role

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily coverage decisions and reporter assignments to ensure competitive multi-platform presence
  • Determine optimal story formats and delivery timelines for various digital and linear platforms
  • Lead regular story check-ins and plan coverage for upcoming news cycles
  • Maximize audience insights to drive content choices and improve reach
  • Provide editorial support for producers and photojournalists, reviewing content for accuracy, AP style, and ethics
  • Lead newsroom coverage during breaking news to ensure urgency, accuracy, and balance
  • Uphold TEGNA’s journalistic standards across all platforms

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or 5+ years of journalism experience in a local newsroom or digital production
  • Proven experience managing a team of journalists and newsroom operations
  • Superior news judgment with the ability to make fast editorial decisions under pressure
  • Demonstrated expertise in handling breaking news and managing news-gathering systems
  • Impeccable organizational skills and effective communication abilities
