Story Desk Manager

Responsibilities

• Manage the digital content team and lead digital strategy to grow multi-platform content, audience, and engagement
• Oversee all station efforts on social media platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube
• Analyze audience data and metrics to inform editorial decisions and create accountability for results
• Develop workflows that deliver content 24/7 across digital, mobile, app, OTT, and social media platforms
• Partner with news and marketing directors to lead a cohesive cross-platform strategy
• Coach and mentor content teams in best practices for writing and producing digital-first content
• Identify new content types and innovative technologies to reach and serve new audiences
• Ensure all digital content adheres to TEGNA ethical and editorial standards

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience
• 5-7 years of breaking news content experience
• At least 1 year of experience leading digital journalists (formally or informally)
• Deep understanding of SEO best practices for articles, images, and video
• Proficiency with Content Management Systems (CMS) and news production systems
• Experience analyzing audience data and identifying behavioral trends (Google Analytics experience is a plus)
• Strong journalistic judgment and the ability to handle live, breaking news situations under pressure
