About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the Story Management Desk (SMD) to ensure a streamlined workflow for planning, producing, and curating stories across all platforms
- Collaborate on daily coverage decisions to remain competitive and own major news stories
- Determine optimal story formats and delivery timelines for website, app, streaming, and social media
- Lead and mentor a team of story desk editors
- Utilize audience insights and data analytics to inform content choices and improve reach
- Provide editorial support to producers and photojournalists, reviewing content for accuracy, AP style, and ethical standards
- Manage digital newsroom coverage during breaking news to ensure urgency, accuracy, and balance
- Plan coverage for upcoming news cycles and community-focused enterprise reporting
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or 5+ years of journalism experience in a local newsroom or digital production role
- Proven experience managing a team of journalists
- Superior news judgment and the ability to make fast editorial decisions under pressure
- Demonstrated success handling breaking news environments
- Proficiency with data tools such as Google Data Studio, Tableau, or Amplitude
- Strong organizational skills and experience managing news-gathering systems
