Story Desk Editor

Responsibilities

• React quickly to breaking news and coordinate the effective movement of news crews
• Manage time and logistics to ensure selected stories are covered efficiently with available staff
• Monitor news releases, police and fire scanners, and social media to identify story ideas
• Lead long-term story planning, including managing the newsroom calendar and potential follow-ups
• Create and update content for all digital platforms, including the website and social media
• Produce live streams for digital and social platforms during breaking news and severe weather
• Coordinate with field crews and the digital team to integrate new information, videos, and images
• Use audience insights and metrics to inform content planning and execution

Requirements

• 1-3 years of experience working as a newsroom assignment editor
• Ability to work a variety of shifts, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and overtime
• Strong written and verbal communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills
• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of AP Style
