Story Desk Editor

Responsibilities

• Write and distribute original, accurate breaking news content across digital, mobile, and social platforms
• Curate and schedule news content for the station website, mobile app, and streaming services
• Edit reporter stories for grammar, clarity, structure, and AP style while optimizing for digital consumption
• Use creative packaging techniques, such as subheads, hyperlinks, and multimedia, to enhance digital stories
• Monitor news releases and utilize social listening to identify new enterprise stories and community contacts
• Analyze digital metrics and data to inform editorial and strategic decisions
• Ensure the newsroom upholds journalistic integrity and the station brand across all platforms

Requirements

• BA/BS in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience
• 0-1 years of experience writing breaking news or news articles in AP style
• Strong knowledge of AP style, copy editing, and SEO best practices
• Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
• Ability to handle live, breaking news situations and rapidly changing coverage calmly
• Ability to work various shifts, including mornings, nights, and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CMS, photo, and video-editing systems
• Experience creating and managing content on social media platforms like Instagram, X (Twitter), and Facebook
• Knowledge of digital analytics and how to interpret data
• Familiarity with ENPS, Edius, or Canva
