About the role

Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, repair, and install major HVAC and auxiliary equipment including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and pumps.
  • Inspect operating and safety controls for damage or deterioration to ensure safe and accurate operation.
  • Monitor distribution systems continuously via critical alarms for fire, gas, and temperature.
  • Prepare accurate written reports, maintenance records, and job status updates.
  • Utilize appropriate safety practices and follow technical instructions for equipment operation.
  • Interact diplomatically with staff, management, and the campus community.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a four-year trade program or equivalent education and experience.
  • Universal EPA 608 Technician Certificate.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, steam distribution, and water treatment.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings and technical instructions.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems and basic algebra.
  • Physical ability to stand, crawl, walk, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Los Angeles Unlimited Stationary Engineer's Endorsement License.
  • Minimum of 24 trade-related classroom CEUs.
  • Minimum of 8,000 hours of trade-appropriate work experience.
