STAY Program Teacher

Responsibilities

• Independently manage an assigned Y-STAY classroom to support at-risk middle or high school students.
• Provide tutoring and classroom support in subjects including math, science, social studies, and language arts.
• Plan and execute curriculum activities focused on character development, life skills, and substance abuse prevention.
• Track and report on student progress regarding behavior, attendance, and academic performance.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with school administration, teachers, and parents.
• Participate in monthly adventure trips and experiential learning activities such as hiking or rock climbing.
• Assist in developing fundraising and community service projects for the Y-STAY program.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, sociology, counseling, or a related field.
• Previous experience working in youth development.
• Ability to tutor at an 8th-grade level across multiple core subjects.
• Valid NH driver's license and willingness to drive a YMCA mini-bus as needed.
• Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within the first 60 days of employment.
• Comfort participating in outdoor adventure activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience implementing values education and asset-building activities.
• Strong organizational and writing skills for grant-required documentation.
• Proficiency with school-based computer programs and internet research.
