Responsibilities

  • Develop system-level thermal requirements and decompose to subsystems and components
  • Own thermal management of the entire robot platform including cooling devices, thermal paths, and heat dissipation strategies
  • Partner with Hardware sub-teams to ensure thermal requirements are met and cooling device placement is optimized
  • Create detailed thermal simulations and lead thermal verification across diverse operating environments
  • Collaborate with Control Engineers to develop thermal management algorithms, derating, and shutdown strategies
  • Work with Safety Engineers to integrate thermal constraints into system safety analyses
  • Validate subsystem and robot-level thermal performance and document specifications and test plans
  • Provide technical guidance on thermal design principles and best practices

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of related experience in thermal systems analysis
  • Expertise in heat transfer principles, thermal modeling, and cooling device design
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Hands-on experience with thermal simulation tools
  • Strong systems-thinking across mechanical, electrical, and control layers
  • Experience decomposing system-level requirements into component specifications
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Hardware, Controls, and Safety teams
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, or OpenFOAM
  • Proficiency in MATLAB / Simulink for thermal modeling or control algorithms
  • Experience with Python for thermal data analysis and automation
  • Exposure to functional safety standards like ISO 26262 or IEC 61508
  • Experience with requirements management tools like Jama or Polarion
  • Background in robotics or high-performance hardware platforms
