Staff Software Engineer

Urban Sky is a venture-backed aerospace startup that pioneers utilization of the stratosphere and reimagines the way humans view and analyze the earth. We design, build, operate, and sell stratospheric balloon systems, and the data we collect supports a wide range of applications, from real-time wildfire monitoring to urban mapping.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and operate a full-stack MRP system for manufacturing operations
• Translate physical manufacturing processes into clean software solutions
• Build interfaces for shop-floor operators, including scanner integration and touch-target optimization
• Maintain end-to-end traceability and audit trails in an aerospace-regulated (AS9100) environment
• Own the full software lifecycle from concept to production and long-term maintenance
• Use AI tools daily for implementation, debugging, and refactoring

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong fundamentals in system design, data structures, and architecture
• Experience building and operating backend systems at scale
• Solid instincts for data modeling, schema design, and SQL
• Comfort with cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps practices
• Ability to work in a small, fast-moving team with high ownership

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with TypeScript and modern web development
• Proficiency with React, Vite, and Mantine UI
• Experience with PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, or tRPC
• Familiarity with AWS, Terraform, and Docker
• Experience in manufacturing or regulated industries
