Staff Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Participate in the development of a unique distributed database system combining high scalability and performance with rich ACID transactions
• Design and implement novel query optimization or distributed data processing algorithms
• Design, develop, and support a petabyte-scale cloud database system that is highly parallel and fault-tolerant
• Analyze and resolve complex performance and scalability bottlenecks
• Own end-to-end project delivery including design, implementation, testing, and production rollout
• Mentor and support the professional growth of junior engineers

Requirements

• 8+ years of industry experience working on commercial or open-source software
• Strong fluency in C++ or Java
• Deep understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
• Strong systems programming skills including multi-threading and concurrency
• Solid foundation in distributed systems concepts such as consistency, scaling, and failure recovery
• Experience with implementation testing, debugging, and documentation in a Linux environment
• BS in Computer Science (Masters or PhD preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SQL or database internal design and implementation
• Knowledge of query optimization, query execution, or compiler design
• Experience with distributed key-value stores like FoundationDB or storage engines like RocksDB, InnoDB, or BerkeleyDB
• Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL internals
• Experience with large-scale data processing solutions like Hadoop or Spark
• Experience with database replication technology or big data storage like HDFS and Cassandra
