Staff Software Engineer, Search Infrastructure

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable search infrastructure services and microservices that power search experiences across machine learning and platform teams.
• Design and operate high-throughput data pipelines using messaging queues like Kafka, integrating with chunking, embedding, and access control services.
• Manage thousands of OpenSearch indices across large-scale clusters, owning the full lifecycle including schema design, optimization, and archival.
• Improve performance, scalability, and observability of search infrastructure, focusing on query latency, indexing throughput, and cluster health.
• Own search infrastructure features from initial design through rollout and ongoing operations, influencing the long-term roadmap.
• Drive reliability improvements through capacity planning, cluster scaling strategies, and index lifecycle management.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python, Golang, Java, or C++.
• Experience with containers/Docker and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Hands-on experience operating open-source technologies at scale, such as Kafka, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Istio, or Vector DBs.
• Proven ability to solve complex problems related to performance, optimization, scalability, and latency.
• BS in Computer Science or a related technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior exposure to search technologies such as Lucene or Solr.
• Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment with a high degree of ownership.
