Staff Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend APIs and services for the agentic platform
• Build agent identity and machine-to-machine authentication systems
• Develop agent knowledge base and memory layers for context retention
• Build observability layers including tracing, cost tracking, and audit logs
• Implement governance and safety layers for policy enforcement and PII protection
• Build orchestration layers for multi-step agent workflows and error recovery
• Collaborate with Product, SRE, Security, and Data teams to integrate with the broader Okta platform

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building production backend systems
• 1+ years of exposure to AI/ML or agentic applications
• Proficiency in Python, TypeScript/Node.js, Go, or similar backend languages
• Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and container orchestration
• Security-conscious mindset with familiarity with OAuth, OIDC, or modern auth patterns
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or U.S. national

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to LLM integration, RAG pipelines, or MCP
• Experience with agent orchestration frameworks like LangChain or LangGraph
• Experience with policy-as-code authorization such as Cedar or OPA
• Experience building developer-facing APIs and SDKs
