Staff Software Engineer, Flights

Responsibilities

• Act as a prolific individual contributor and technical leader, designing and developing robust, high-performance architecture for our flagship flight platform.
• Solve complex, ambiguous engineering challenges to improve system reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Own critical features end-to-end, from initial design and coding to monitoring operational health post-release.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and cross-functional teams globally to translate user needs into seamless technical realities.
• Champion engineering excellence by setting high standards for code quality, documentation, testing, and developer experience.
• Mentor engineers across the team to foster continuous technical growth and mastery.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building and scaling complex systems in high-growth or large-scale environments.
• Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and AWS (or similar cloud providers), including JVM performance and optimization.
• Strong mastery of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and API design.
• Proven track record of being a hands-on coder who delivers high-quality, maintainable, production-ready code.
• Ability to navigate highly ambiguous problem spaces and turn them into actionable technical solutions.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).

Preferred Qualifications

• Domain knowledge in the travel industry, specifically regarding flights, bookings, or inventory management.
