Staff+ Software Engineer - Backend

Responsibilities

• Build simulation environments where AI agents can be trained and evaluated on realistic SRE work
• Work with Research Scientists to translate SRE scenarios into reproducible, graded environments
• Own the architecture and implementation of large subsystems including infra, tooling, and data pipelines
• Design, build, and scale backend services and APIs for high-concurrency environments
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance in distributed systems
• Use AI tools aggressively across the stack to accelerate development

Requirements

• 1+ years operating at a Staff or equivalent technical leadership level
• Strong experience building and deploying scalable, high-performance backend services
• Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS) and Kubernetes
• Solid grasp of databases and messaging systems for cloud-native applications
• Strong bias for action and ability to iterate quickly
• Eagerness to work deeply with LLM-powered systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior SRE, on-call, or incident response experience
• Familiarity with observability and developer-facing tool internals
