Staff Software Engineer - Backend

Northwood is a modern space infrastructure company bringing the benefits of space to the masses through advanced communications technology. We are building a global network of phased array ground stations that enable real-time, reliable communication for satellite missions.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop cloud-based scheduling and orchestration systems for global antenna network access
• Build and maintain customer-facing APIs for scheduling, real-time communications, and data routing
• Design and implement control and data planes for integration across on-premises and cloud environments
• Develop billing and metering systems to track resource usage and generate invoices
• Create orchestration systems to coordinate antenna operations across a global network
• Collaborate with customers and network operations to build a resilient global network
• Work with customers to define secure and scalable interfaces for Telemetry, Tracking, and Control (TT&C)

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development experience
• 3+ years building and scaling cloud-based services and APIs in production
• Experience with distributed scheduling systems, resource allocation, or booking platforms
• Proficiency in modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual per ITAR regulations

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in Rust or Golang
• Experience building global-scale customer-facing platforms with high reliability
• Knowledge of API design, authentication, and access control
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues
• Familiarity with billing systems or subscription management
• Understanding of simulation and modeling (Satellite propagation)
• Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge of satellite communications domain
