Staff/Senior Staff Backend Software Engineer, Workspace Agents

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend systems that power Workspace Agents in ChatGPT
• Develop core infrastructure to make agents more reliable, configurable, and extensible in workplace environments
• Build systems that connect agentic experiences to enterprise context, workflows, and tools
• Work across technical challenges including agent orchestration, backend APIs, and enterprise integrations
• Partner with product, design, and research teams to translate model capabilities into scalable product features
• Shape the technical direction of a high-priority product area within OpenAI’s enterprise strategy

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, or Rust
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems, service architecture, and APIs
• Experience building scalable product systems for complex workflows or enterprise customers
• Ability to operate in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and make pragmatic technical tradeoffs

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with enterprise software, workflow automation, or platform products
• Experience building trust-sensitive systems or complex integrations
• Strong interest in AI agents and workplace productivity
