Staff Scientist, R&D

Responsibilities

• Serve as a regional subject matter expert in injection science, drug-device combination products, and drug delivery systems.
• Lead scientific assessments and feasibility evaluations for new drug delivery concepts and emerging technologies.
• Engage with pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers to translate needs into technical requirements for device and formulation design.
• Support regional innovation strategies for biologics, vaccines, and high-concentration formulations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Technical Services and Marketing, to ensure smooth technology transfer and customer support.
• Represent BD at scientific conferences, industry forums, and customer events to strengthen thought leadership.

Requirements

• PhD preferred (with 5-8 years of relevant experience) or Master's degree (with 10-12 years of relevant experience).
• Educational background in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Biotechnology.
• Proven experience with drug delivery systems such as prefilled syringes, autoinjectors, and wearable injectors.
• Fluency in both English and Mandarin (spoken and written) to liaise with stakeholders in China.
• Willingness to travel 50% to 75%.
• Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in pre-clinical and/or clinical drug delivery research and model development.
• Deep technical knowledge of subcutaneous delivery systems, primary packaging, and drug-material compatibility.
• Familiarity with regulatory and industry standards related to combination products.
