Staff Scientist

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate automated high-throughput NGS assays for commercial CLIA laboratories
• Provide production support to automated high-throughput NGS assays
• Manage technical projects, timelines, and deliverables for NGS-based assays
• Mentor and manage the functional activities of junior employees and Research Associates
• Design and execute complex experiments and perform data analysis using JMP, R, Python, or Excel
• Coordinate with automation engineering, laboratory operations, bioinformatics, and statistics teams
• Write study protocols, reports, and SOPs
• Identify areas for continuous improvement in production workflows

Requirements

• MS with 11+ years or PhD with 8+ years of experience in assay development and automation
• Proven track record of developing and validating automated protocols for CLIA labs
• Deep technical knowledge of NGS biology and processes
• Proficiency in data analysis using JMP, Python, or R
• Experience with nucleic acid extraction, PCR, NGS library preparation, and hybrid capture technologies
• Experience implementing and troubleshooting high-throughput automated assays with liquid handler robots
• Ability to travel to Natera’s Austin site up to 20% of the time
