About the role

About the Company

Rhoda AI is building the next generation of generalist intelligent robots. We own the full robotics stack from high-performance hardware and robot systems to the infrastructure and state-of-the-art foundation world models that control our robots. We've raised over $450M and are investing aggressively in model research, infrastructure, hardware development, and manufacturing scale-up.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate control algorithms from MATLAB/Simulink into real-time firmware on microcontrollers and real-time Linux systems
  • Commission communication buses including CAN and EtherCAT to connect motor controllers and compute hardware
  • Validate motor performance through cogging torque compensation, field-oriented control tuning, and friction modeling
  • Build and operate hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) test benches to simulate robot dynamics and inject faults
  • Profile real-time performance to optimize latency paths across firmware interrupt handlers and control loops
  • Perform root-cause analysis on unexpected robot behavior to isolate issues between control laws, firmware, or hardware

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a closely related engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of experience in motor controls, real-time systems, or firmware
  • Hands-on experience with PID loops, field-oriented control, or trajectory tracking
  • Proficiency with real-time Linux, microcontrollers, or RTOS
  • Solid experience with CAN, CAN FD, or EtherCAT protocols
  • Experience with sensor integration including encoders, IMUs, and force/torque sensors
  • Strong understanding of control theory, including Laplace transforms, Bode plots, and system stability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EtherCAT, SOEM, Beckhoff hardware, or TwinCAT
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for modeling and parameter identification
  • Proficiency in Python or C++ for test automation and data post-processing
  • Experience with motor characterization and thermal dynamics
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards
