Staff Optical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own the delivery of optical subsystems to the instrument program as the primary technical lead
• Manage comprehensive optical error budgets and performance metrics including image quality, stray light, and radiometric throughput
• Collaborate with systems engineering on thermal constraints and line-of-sight pointing/jitter
• Define and drive strategy for optical instrument assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) planning
• Support subsystem and instrument level functional, performance, and environmental testing
• Champion continuous improvement of testing methodologies and tools

Requirements

• Ph.D. with 5+ years of experience, M.S. with 8+ years, or B.S. with 10+ years in imaging systems and infrared remote sensing
• Expertise in optical design and analysis using Zemax, Code V, or FRED
• Hands-on experience with precision optical metrology and AI&T execution
• Proficiency in Python or C++ for data analysis and automation
• Demonstrated technical leadership and project management skills
• Ability to obtain security clearance preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to systems engineering, requirements development, and V&V
• Experience working in cleanroom environments
• Experience supporting integrated spacecraft-level environmental testing and launch campaigns
