Staff OBD System Development Engineer

Responsibilities

• Serve as the subject matter expert for onboard diagnostic (OBD) system development within specific vehicle sub-systems
• Define diagnostic system coverage requirements based on stakeholder inputs, DFMEA, and PFMEA
• Develop diagnostic monitoring strategies, including algorithm development and architectural design
• Interface between software development teams and manufacturing, service, and diagnostic software stakeholders
• Ensure complete verification of requirements and architectural design for correct system functionality
• Support technical integration of diagnostic systems at manufacturing plants
• Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned and best practices

Requirements

• BS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Software preferred)
• 8+ years of engineering experience
• Experience with OBD II
• Experience in Requirements Engineering, Systems Engineering, and E/E Architecture
• Technical understanding of electric vehicle architecture
• Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols (CAN, CANFD, ETH, LIN, UART, SENT)
• Familiarity with diagnostic communication protocols (ISO-14229-x, SAE J1979-x, ISO-15031, etc.)
• Familiarity with diagnostic standards (SAE J2012, SAE J1979, SAE J1930, etc.)
• Proficiency with C and Python
• Experience with Gitlab

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in security, functional safety, and telematics
