Staff Nurse

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet the physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of inmate patients, including adults and geriatrics.
• Utilize the nursing process with a primary focus on ambulatory care within a correctional environment.
• Collaborate with various healthcare professionals and security officers to ensure patient safety and effective care delivery.
• Maintain a safe environment for providing healthcare to inmate-patients using current medical knowledge and protocols.
• Adhere to all personnel and Department of Corrections (DOC) policies to enhance the operation of the health care unit.
• Function as a team leader as assigned and maintain professional growth to enhance correctional nursing practices.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current New Jersey nursing license to practice.
• Valid CPR Certification.
• Valid Driver’s License and possession of a vehicle or alternative means of transportation for travel between sites.
• Physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes.
• Ability to lift and carry an emergency treatment bag (up to 45 pounds) and assist in lifting/rotating patients (up to 50 pounds).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of experience in a correctional healthcare setting.
