Staff MOCVD Scientist

Responsibilities

• Design and execute scientific investigations to optimize MOCVD processes for YBCO thin-film deposition
• Establish precursor decomposition pathways and reaction mechanisms governing film growth
• Investigate gas-phase chemistry, surface kinetics, and transport phenomena
• Implement and interpret in-situ and ex-situ diagnostics to understand deposition behavior
• Apply design-of-experiments (DOE) methodologies and predictive modeling
• Contribute to R&D roadmaps for scaling MOCVD processes for manufacturing
• Collaborate with equipment engineering to improve reactor design and precursor delivery
• Mentor engineers and scientists in thin-film deposition and superconducting materials

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Applied Physics, or related field
• 4 years of relevant experience in MOCVD or related vapor deposition processes
• Demonstrated experience in thin film growth mechanisms and reaction chemistry

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or related field
• Direct experience with YBCO or complex oxide superconducting films
• Experience with high-molecular-weight solid precursors
• Familiarity with in-situ diagnostic techniques
• Experience developing or modifying MOCVD reactor hardware
• Experience with kinetic modeling, computational chemistry, or machine learning for process development
• Programming experience in JMP, Python, or MATLAB
