Staff Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis of Gen 2 product designs using Ansys FEA and hand calculations
• Establish best practices for analysis methodology and pass/fail criteria for various load cases
• Create calculator tools and spreadsheets for standard load cases and joint analyses
• Work with the test team to initiate test campaigns and establish material libraries for FEA
• Collaborate with designers and test engineers to validate designs through test and FEA correlation
• Present analysis and test results to leadership in design reviews
• Perform failure root cause analysis on systems and assemblies
• Travel up to 10% to other offices or vendor sites

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
• 7+ years of industry experience in mechanical design and structural analysis
• Experience leading design work for complex mechanical structures
• Proficiency in Ansys FEA for dynamic, static, linear, and non-linear simulations
• Proficiency in component design for mass manufacturing (DFMA), specifically sheet metal, stampings, and weldments
• Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD modeling
• Ability to work with a sense of urgency to hit difficult schedule targets

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience analyzing structures per ASCE 7-22 and AISC-360
