Staff Machine Learning Engineer

Responsibilities

• Shape the direction of applied AI areas and intelligence features in Databricks products
• Drive development and deployment of state-of-the-art AI models and systems
• Develop novel data collection, fine-tuning, and LLM technologies
• Design and implement ML pipelines for preprocessing, feature engineering, and model training
• Build scalable, reusable backend systems to support GenAI products
• Develop robust logging, telemetry, and evaluation harnesses

Requirements

• 2-8 years of machine learning engineering experience in high-growth companies or relevant ML research background
• Strong track record with language modeling technologies (generative/embedding techniques, model architectures, fine-tuning)
• Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow, or PyTorch
• Experience with scalable ML architectures
• Ability to drive end-to-end model development from research to deployment
• Strong software engineering skills including testing and code reviews

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with LLM fine-tuning
• Prompt engineering expertise
• Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) experience
