About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of high voltage AC electrical systems for industrial substations (69kV to 345kV)
- Develop single-line diagrams, physical layouts, protection and control systems, and grounding plans
- Perform grid simulation and stability studies using PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, and ASPEN OneLiner
- Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies and compliance
- Perform short circuit, load flow, and arc flash studies
- Evaluate and select high voltage equipment including switchgear, transformers, and protection relays
- Serve as Electrical Engineer of Record for assigned projects
- Lead code compliance reviews (NEC, IEEE, NESC, NFPA)
- Collaborate with civil and structural engineers on substation layout and site development
- Support construction and commissioning teams with field engineering and troubleshooting
- Mentor junior engineers and develop design workflows and standards
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada or eligible for reciprocity (must obtain PE in NV and SC within 2 months)
- Minimum 10 years of experience in high voltage electrical design, preferably in EPC environments
- Advanced proficiency in PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, SEL AcSELerator, and ASPEN OneLiner
- Proficiency in power system modeling using ETAP or SKM
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Bluebeam
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HVDC systems and converter station design
- Understanding of SCADA and substation automation
- Field experience in construction and commissioning of high voltage systems
