About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of high voltage AC electrical systems for industrial substations (69kV to 345kV)
  • Develop single-line diagrams, physical layouts, protection and control systems, and grounding plans
  • Perform grid simulation and stability studies using PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, and ASPEN OneLiner
  • Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies and compliance
  • Perform short circuit, load flow, and arc flash studies
  • Evaluate and select high voltage equipment including switchgear, transformers, and protection relays
  • Serve as Electrical Engineer of Record for assigned projects
  • Lead code compliance reviews (NEC, IEEE, NESC, NFPA)
  • Collaborate with civil and structural engineers on substation layout and site development
  • Support construction and commissioning teams with field engineering and troubleshooting
  • Mentor junior engineers and develop design workflows and standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada or eligible for reciprocity
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in high voltage electrical design
  • Proficiency in PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, and ASPEN OneLiner
  • Experience with SEL Relay Settings and SEL AcSELerator
  • Proficiency in power system modeling using ETAP or SKM
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Bluebeam

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in EPC environments
  • Design experience with HVDC systems and converter stations
  • Understanding of SCADA and substation automation
  • Field experience in construction and commissioning of high voltage systems
