Staff Engineer, Sputter Yield Engineering

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed failure analysis on defective media using advanced tools such as SEM, EDX, AFM, and FIB
• Collaborate with process and equipment engineering teams to troubleshoot chronic yield issues in Anelva sputter systems
• Lead cross-functional investigations to determine root causes of yield loss or quality defects
• Perform trend analysis and statistical data mining to proactively identify potential yield risks
• Support and lead yield improvement projects using 8D or other structured problem-solving methodologies
• Drive improvement initiatives in sputter process parameters, system settings, and material handling
• Participate in the qualification and evaluation of new materials or hardware upgrades
• Maintain structured documentation of all failure analysis cases and corrective actions

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Material Science, Physics, or Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical)
• 7–10 years of experience in failure analysis, thin film, or semiconductor manufacturing
• Proficiency with failure/root cause analysis tools and techniques (e.g., SEM, SPC, 5 Whys, FMEA)
• Knowledge of sputtering, vacuum systems, or thin film deposition
• Proficiency in statistical data analysis tools such as JMP or Minitab
• Strong communication skills in English and a high learning aptitude

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in metrology concepts and inspection
• Fundamentals of the Six Sigma approach
