About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop machine and operational concepts in collaboration with R&D staff and engineering peers
  • Create robust system architectures for controls components including PLCs, safety devices, HMIs, and servo drives
  • Design, modify, and approve electrical schematics for industrial and test equipment compliant with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A standards
  • Write and debug PLC structured text to ensure code is organized, documented, and maintainable
  • Implement control-reliable safety systems compliant with ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA
  • Create HMI screens for complex machinery to provide feedback for troubleshooting
  • Debug and optimize automated operations to maximize cycle time and yield
  • Manage external software contractors to develop control systems for internal tools

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in controls engineering for complex mechanical systems
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical for schematic and cable designs
  • Experience with TwinCAT IDE and TwinSAFE safety PLC programming
  • PLC programming experience in IEC 611:31-3 languages
  • Familiarity with Python and modern development tools like GitHub and CI/CD
  • Experience with Inductive Automation's Ignition platform
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities such as climbing and standing
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Semiconductor Capital Equipment manufacturing
  • Experience with enclosure design compliant with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A standards
  • Experience developing and tuning control loops
