Staff Embedded Software Engineer

About the Company

fab2 is an early-stage hardware startup founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. The team designs and builds the hardware and software needed to manufacture chips, including the fabs, tools, and components themselves.

Responsibilities

• Lead microcontroller firmware development for semiconductor processing equipment and components
• Design and implement real-time Linux applications for equipment control and process automation
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers on requirements and controls implementation

Requirements

• BS in Computer Science, Physics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in real-time embedded software development
• Experience programming in C for microcontrollers and Python for diagnostic applications
• Experience taking embedded systems from 0 to 1 (requirements to production)
• Knowledge of microcontroller peripherals (ADC, GPIO, PWM, SPI, I2C, CAN)
• Experience working with actuators, sensors, and digital signal processing

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in semiconductors, industrial automation, or manufacturing
• Familiarity with controls for motor drivers, mass flow controllers, or precision actuators
• Experience programming in Rust
• Familiarity with embedded Linux (Yocto, Buildroot)
• Interest in applied math, linear algebra, and numerical methods
• Familiarity with FMEA or reliability-focused design practices
