About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and guidance to DCWP staff and management on new and existing laws and regulations
- Assist with implementing new and amended laws, including drafting rules, charges, checklists, and penalty schedules
- Serve as a subject matter expert on specific industries regulated by DCWP
- Address legal issues arising from licensing, collections, and enforcement work
- Draft memoranda, correspondence, and other legal documents
- Communicate with external parties including licensees, complainants, and stakeholders
- Assist with drafting contracts and negotiating settlement agreements for civil penalties and consumer restitution
- Occasionally bring charges against businesses at the NYC Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH)
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar, or six months of service as an Agency Attorney Interne
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within teams
