Staff Controls Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain modular, real-time control architectures for locomotion, manipulation, and teleoperation
• Implement high-performance control loops and middleware interfaces
• Industrialize algorithms to ensure production readiness and maintainability
• Establish software boundaries between motion planning, control, and hardware layers
• Develop automated testing frameworks including simulation and hardware-in-the-loop
• Implement software-based fail-safes, watchdogs, and redundancy mechanisms
• Mentor engineers on control software best practices and performance optimization

Requirements

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Robotics, Control, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• 10+ years of experience developing robotics control software for real-time systems
• Proven expertise in modern C++ and Python
• Strong background in control theory, robot kinematics, and dynamics
• Experience deploying control software in simulation and on physical robotic platforms
• Track record of shipping production-quality robotics software

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ROS2, real-time Linux, or RTOS environments
• Familiarity with Eigen, Pinocchio, Placo, PyTorch, or MuJoCo
• Background in whole-body control or actuator coordination
• Experience in learning-based control methods like RL or imitation learning
