Staff BESS Electrical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical engineering efforts for utility scale lithium-ion BESS projects from concept through construction
• Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs to support interconnection studies, permitting, and compliance
• Design AC and DC electrical systems including medium voltage transformers, inverters, and battery modules
• Develop schematic diagrams, single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and protection strategies
• Perform power system studies for short circuit, load flow, arc flash, and protective device coordination
• Serve as the Electrical Engineer of Record for assigned projects
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and SCADA teams to produce complete IFC packages
• Perform QA/QC reviews of electrical designs and mentor junior engineers

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada or eligible for reciprocity
• Minimum 5 years of experience in solar, energy storage, or microgrid sectors
• At least 3 years focused on BESS design and deployment
• Expertise in interconnection and regulatory compliance for BESS systems
• Proficiency in power system modeling tools such as ETAP or SKM
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and Bluebeam

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with transmission-level load flow and stability using PSSE and PSLF
• Electromagnetic Transient Simulations using PSCAD or EMTC
• SEL Relay Settings using SEL AcCeleraor
• Design of HVDC systems and converter stations
• Knowledge of energy storage use-cases like peak shaving and frequency response
