Staff Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Work on the architecture, design, and technical strategy for complex microservices systems, establishing patterns and best practices across multiple teams.
• Drive technical decision-making and architectural reviews to ensure the scalability, reliability, and maintainability of the Plans domain.
• Lead critical technical initiatives and cross-team projects, collaborating with senior stakeholders to align technical strategy with business objectives.
• Drive the adoption of AI-powered tools and methodologies to accelerate development cycles and enhance output quality.
• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of operational excellence and high-quality engineering in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with deep expertise in microservices and distributed event-driven architectural patterns.
• Expert-level proficiency in Go or JVM languages.
• Advanced experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architectures, including production operations at scale.
• Extensive experience building event-driven architectures using message bus technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS/SNS.
• Deep expertise with relational and NoSQL database technologies, including performance optimization and schema design.
• Meaningful experience using AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as part of your regular workflow.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and drive technical standards across distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with e-commerce or subscription-based business models.
• Experience with GraphQL integration.
