Staff Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Shape the technical direction of backend systems and lead complex projects
• Make architectural decisions that affect the entire platform
• Drive technical initiatives including system architecture and technical strategy
• Own ambiguous, high-stakes projects and identify system gaps
• Set standards for code review, system design, and operational excellence
• Mentor other engineers through collaboration on real work

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience
• Proven track record of leading complex projects
• Ability to turn vague problems into clear technical approaches
• Experience building and scaling systems
• Strong ability to articulate technical tradeoffs
• Hands-on approach to coding and shipping

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python (Django/FastAPI) or TypeScript (Node.js)
• Experience with AWS, Modal, Kubernetes, or Postgres
