Staff Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and build resilient backend services and APIs
• Own high-level system architecture and major technical decisions across multiple systems
• Oversee critical data pipelines from ingestion to enrichment to delivery
• Architect systems for 100x data growth over the next three years
• Lead major cross-team initiatives and complex project delivery end to end
• Partner with ML leaders on model integration and agent architecture
• Build reliability and test coverage into the code itself
• Improve performance, scalability, and observability across the stack
• Mentor engineers through direction, feedback, and day-to-day support

Requirements

• 8+ years building and operating complex, production backend systems
• Deep experience with high-throughput, large distributed systems
• Strong experience with Scala, Python, or functional / JVM languages
• Expertise in distributed systems, data modeling, and high-volume pipelines
• History of providing technical coaching and direction to senior engineers
• Experience introducing new technologies and patterns across a team
• Ability to thrive in greenfield environments without heavy process or QA buffers
