Staff Backend Engineer - Ads Formats

Responsibilities

• Own the technical vision and end-to-end architecture for next-generation ad formats, including a unified serving layer.
• Design highly automated systems for ad format serving, optimization, and A/B testing to maximize business outcomes.
• Build framework-level solutions that make new formats faster to ship and improve user understanding.
• Conceptualize, prototype, and run experiments on new ad format ideas based on market trends and advertiser needs.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Data Science to deliver cohesive, high-impact solutions.
• Raise the engineering bar by advocating for best practices in scalability, availability, and operational excellence.
• Mentor and guide other engineers to foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years of experience in technical leadership driving complex, cross-team projects.
• Deep expertise in building and scaling ad formats or similar user-facing content delivery systems.
• Proven track record of operating highly available, high-performance, low-latency backend systems at scale.
• AI-native proficiency, using modern AI tooling as a core part of your daily workflow.
• Strong product mindset with the ability to turn ambiguous business problems into clear technical direction.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cross-platform development.
• Prior experience building or operating creative serving infrastructure for digital advertising (e.g., video or interactive creative).
• Experience with machine learning and generative AI in advertising, such as ranking, retrieval, and optimization.
