Staff Back End Engineer

Altruist is transforming the multi-trillion dollar wealth management industry by building an AI platform for wealth professionals. Hazel, a part of Altruist, is building the AI engine for wealth management that helps unlock 10x growth, efficiency and value for financial advisors and their clients in a regulated industry.

Responsibilities

• Act as a leader and steward of engineering best practices, helping to mentor other engineers and develop impactful solutions
• Analyze and solve complex problems spanning multiple user personas and workflows
• Focus on building and scaling services and user facing web applications
• Build customer centric scalable and performant AI-driven applications and features
• Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and ELT processes
• Build new data integrations based on established requirements
• Perform data analysis to investigate and resolve data issues

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building precise and scalable distributed systems
• Experience with Generative AI frameworks and tools (RAG, Langchain, Vector database)
• Prior experience delivering impactful Gen-AI products in production
• Familiarity with AI/ML use cases such as content generation, summarization or NLP
• Familiarity with integrating third-party AI APIs (OpenAI, Hugging Face, Anthropic)
• B.A. / B.S. degree in Computer Science or similar Engineering/Mathematics degree
• Proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, AWS, Postgres, and Kubernetes

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience steering AI model output using prompt engineering, supervised finetuning, or reinforcement learning
