Staff Automation Engineer, Powertrain

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to ensure powertrain control systems meet throughput, safety, and quality requirements for production.
• Architect, write, and debug PLC ladder logic that is organized, documented, and maintainable.
• Develop company and factory-level controls standards and specifications for internal teams and external partners.
• Implement ANSI/RIA15.06 and OSHA compliant safety systems for robots, gantries, and conveyors.
• Design and generate HMI screens to provide effective feedback for machinery troubleshooting.
• Create data management and tracking network architectures to interface with cross-functional teams for quality traceability.
• Debug and optimize automated processes to maximize cycle time, availability, and yield.
• Manage external integrators during specification, design review, and design approval processes.
• Establish and execute test plans at both vendor sites and Lucid facilities during installation and buy-off.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering.
• 8+ years of Automation Engineering experience within the automotive industry.
• Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen Bradley and/or Siemens) and Safety PLCs.
• In-depth knowledge of safety standards including ANSI/RIA15.06 and OSHA.
• Experience with HMI platforms such as Ignition, FactoryTalk Optix, or Siemens WinCC.
• Experience with Fieldbus Networks including Ethernet/IP and PROFINET.
• Strong understanding of electromechanical/mechatronic systems and process integration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience interfacing with and programming Fanuc Robots.
• Experience with Vision systems such as Cognex, Keyence, or Fanuc.
• Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD packages like SolidWorks or CATIA.
• Knowledge of production quality metrics.
