Staff Attorney

Responsibilities

• Represent survivors of domestic violence in Family Court, Supreme Court, and the IDV Part of Criminal Court
• Handle family legal matters including family offenses, child custody, visitation, child/spousal support, and divorce proceedings
• Conduct off-site legal clinics, outreach, and education programs with community-based partners
• Collaborate with social workers and community agency advocates to provide culturally sensitive representation

Requirements

• Admitted to the New York State Bar or recent law graduate
• Advocacy experience in family law, domestic violence, immigrants’ rights, civil rights, or economic justice
• Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills
• Proficiency with software technology and case management systems like Legal Server
• Commitment to advancing equity for diverse, low-income communities of color

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working specifically with domestic violence survivors
• Experience working within an interdisciplinary team
• Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, or Arabic
