Staff Attorney, Litigation

About the Company

Advancement Project is a national organization dedicated to building local power in communities of color through a movement lawyering approach. We support grassroots organizations working to eliminate oppressive structures in laws and institutions, covering issues from the school-to-prison pipeline to voting rights and immigrant justice.

Responsibilities

• Investigate alleged constitutional violations and racial justice issues through data and factual analysis
• Conduct litigation research and prepare memoranda, briefs, and other legal documents
• Assist with investigations, discovery, and motion writing
• Collaborate with internal and external colleagues on state constitutional litigation
• Provide guidance to team members and interns
• Assist with cross-program legal and policy work

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree
• State bar membership
• At least 5 years of litigation experience
• Demonstrated commitment to racial justice
• Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills
• Willingness to travel

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in civil rights matters or constitutional litigation
• Experience with criminal justice issues
• Trial experience
• Interest in working with grassroots organizations
