About the role
About the Company
Advancement Project is a national organization dedicated to building local power in communities of color through a movement lawyering approach. We support grassroots organizations working to eliminate oppressive structures in laws and institutions, covering issues from the school-to-prison pipeline to voting rights and immigrant justice.
Responsibilities
- Investigate alleged constitutional violations and racial justice issues through data and factual analysis
- Conduct litigation research and prepare memoranda, briefs, and other legal documents
- Assist with investigations, discovery, and motion writing
- Collaborate with internal and external colleagues on state constitutional litigation
- Provide guidance to team members and interns
- Assist with cross-program legal and policy work
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree
- State bar membership
- At least 5 years of litigation experience
- Demonstrated commitment to racial justice
- Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills
- Willingness to travel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in civil rights matters or constitutional litigation
- Experience with criminal justice issues
- Trial experience
- Interest in working with grassroots organizations
